Jersey’s Finest Dance Company, led by Griselle Ponce, was on fire last Thursday night in New Brunswick, New Jersey. PERLE Nightclub was shaken to its core as soon as this pro dance team began its new routine. Here is the video of the highlight of the night. As a disc jockey, I have always felt that I was missing something when I played music. Years ago when I played Latin Rock in my weekly radio show at WRSU 88.7FM, I wished that I could play Salsa. And when I spun Salsa records at socials and nightclubs, I wished that I could play Latin Rock. It’s remarkable that after more than 10 years of spinning music, I have the opportunity to join two of the genres that I love.
Our Thursday night party at Perlé got an official megabuster addition. The RED ROOM, the 2nd lounge at Perle will open every Thusday featuring Latin Rock, Latn Pop, Latin TOP 40, World Beats, and Tropical. This ad-hoc party is called TACUBA THURSDAYS @ PERLÉ. It starts on March 4th, every week.
Let’s clarify. SALSA THURSDAYS will continue as usual in the main room. TACUBA THURSDAYS will be take place in the RED ROOM. Two parties. Two rooms.
In my not so humble opinion, I have put together a killer team of disc jockeys. DJ LEO G, DJ LEO COTTO, DJ La C. GUAPA, and yours truly DJ DANY J will be in the rotation of disc jockeys for TACUBA THURSDAYS. And along with DJ RICKY V, this team promises to rock two (2) parties on Thursday night.
Soon, I will introduce each member of the team, along with his/her respective biography and photograph. So stay tuned.

On Thursday, February 4th 2010, we are hosting a two (2) room party. The main room will be playing Salsa as usual, but the RED ROOM will be featuring ROCK EN ESPANOL (Latin Rock, Latin Pop, Vallenato, Ska, Cumbia, Latin Hip-Hop, Rock, 80’s, etc).
DJ Dany J and DJ Ricky V will be rocking Salsa, and DJ Leo G and DJ Leo Cotto will be rocking Rock en Espanol in the RED ROOM.

This video is one of the main soundtrack songs of “La Sangre Y La Lluvia” (Blood and Rain)., a new colombian film directed by Jorge Navas. I have been following this band for some time now, they are called “La Sucursal S.A. (official website)“, and they are from Barcelona. This song/video manages to capture the unmeasured capacity to feel emotional pain and agony that is characteristic and necessary in the most profound flamenco songs. In fact, their debut album, Lo Nuestro (2008), is full of surprises. For example, Marina “La Canillas”, singer of Ojos de Brujo is a featured singer in the track “La Bien Paga”, a subtle blend of antagonistic rhythms and origins.

Quite a few people have been asking important questions and volunteering feedback about the recent changes in the Salsa parties. Thank you to everyone that gave me their opinion. With this in mind, let me clarify and explain the differences between the two parties.
Salsa Thursdays @ Perlé Nightclub will feature Salsa Classics, and a some amount of Bachata, Merengue and other party genres. This party will have a little bit of everything, a little hard salsa, a little commercial salsa, lots of classics, some Bachata, Merengue etc etc. We might even try some “Rock En Español” at the end of the night. Perlé Nightclub is a large and trendy venue so it lends itself to be more flexible and all-inclusive party. “Hard Salsa Saturdays” is a party for Salsa dancers. This party will feature lots of Salsa, and lots of Hard Salsa especially. There will be a few other things mixed through the night but the ‘bread and butter’ of this party will be music for hard Salsa dancers. The “old 360″ is a more intimate and warmer place, so it has more potential for that hard sound that Salsa dancers adore. http://www.HardSalsaSaturdays.com
In the end, each event and venue has a personality of its own. The Salsa music played at each venue must resonate with the natural acoustics of the place and personality of the crowd. For decades, New Brunswick has been home to a very organic music scene! In the last few years, we have been building a public that is becoming addicted to Salsa music, and this public is very demanding in its tastes. For that reason, we have two different kind of events and venues… and music.
