Dany J is a fresh and passionate Salsa DJ from New Brunswick, New Jersey. In a short time, Dany J has appeared and headlined in some of the most popular Salsa clubs and socials in New York City, Philadelphia and everywhere in between in New Jersey. His style at the turntables is fluid and dynamic, always anticipating the mood of the crowd to seduce them to the dance floor song after song. With the perspective from a Salsa dancer, he navigates seamlessly from the under-rated Salsa classics to the most exclusive and rarest tracks, always maintaining a high standard of danceability in the music.

Dany J began as a host and DJ of his own Latin Rock radio show “Ultra Son Latino” at Rutgers University’s WRSU 88.7FM. At WRSU, Dany J interviewed some of the most famous Latin Rock artists, such as Beto Cuevas (La Ley), Julieta Venegas, Enanitos Verdes, Gustavo Cerati (Soda Stereo), Bacilos, Aterciopelados, Cafe Tacuba, Ely Guerra, Molotov and many more.

After several years of doing radio, Dany J decided to trade his Latin Rock radio listeners for live Salsa dancers. Years of experience as an “On-Air” DJ gave Dany J the tools necessary to make a smooth transition from radio to live events. The radio station was the perfect place to master the craft of audio work, from conducting live remote broadcast from clubs, broadcasting live bands, editing audio, producing promo spots and handling music in all its formats.

Dany J’s DJ journey began in the digital age, but his search for unique Salsa tracks has taken him back to playing vinyl LP records in almost every appeareance. And in a little over a year, Dany J has played about one hundred (100) gigs of Salsa music! (See the “Past Shows Archive”)

DJ Ricky Venezuela

New Brunswick, New Jersey

Ricky V. is a New-Jersey-based disc jockey currently spinning Thursday nights at PERLÉ Nightclub. Ricky has been featured at this weekly Salsa party with DJ Dany J since May 2009. Ricky is a natural latin disc jockey, and well-versed in Salsa rhythms and percussion. He poseses a natural ability of jump-starting any party with his amicable energetic presence.

Born in Caracas, Venezuela, from Colombian parents, he was exposed to Salsa rhythms since he was 5 years old, especially to Son Montunos from Los Nemus del Pacifico. As kid, he traveled to Cali, Colombia every December where he had an authentic education in “Rumbas” (Colombian Salsa parties), and dancing. After a particular visit to Cali, in which he had his first dance with a girl, he was hooked to Salsa music for life. When he went back to Venezuela, he joined a group of Venezuelan Folkloric Music, where he developed a deep understanding for percussive rhythms is various instruments. After moving to New Jersey, he studied Colombian Salsa dance with the group “Son De Cali” in Elizabeth, New Jersey, lead by director Otoniel Palacios, where he performed several choreographies.

In New Brunswick after a casual conversation with Dany J, Ricky was invited to appear as a guest disc jockey in Salsa Thursdays with Dany J and immediately became a resident disc jockey and an icon of Salsa in New Brunswick.
