Our last 8-week cycle was so much fun! So much fun in fact, that our next course will be 12 weeks. Many of our students expressed that 8 weeks is not enough fun, so we are extending the length of all of our courses. This course is for those that want to start at the beginning! This course will start at LEVEL 0 and students will learn all the fundamental steps of LEVEL 1.

The next cycle begins on Monday, August 1st at 8pm.

Learn 25 Solo steps (shines) + Learn 10 Steps with a partner

The goal of this course is to give you the confidence to dance comfortably at the nightclub or at Salsa socials. Participants will learn all the necessary steps required to advance to the Level 2.

This course will teach you the fundamentals of Salsa, and give you a solid understanding of musicality and dance theory as it pertains to Salsa on2. You will learn how to listen to the timing of Salsa and dance properly on the beat of the music. We will demystify the elusive percussion rhythms of Latin musical instruments, like the conga and the clave.

NEW JERSEY’S SALSA PARTY: Every 2nd Saturday

Got plans this weekend? We are pleased to announce another big project:
NEW JERSEY’S SALSA DANCE PARTY: Scarlet Mambo Salsa Party!!! This SATURDAY, JUNE 11, 2011 Now you have it! Dance Salsa, Mambo & Cha Cha in New Jersey. This Salsa party will take place every 2nd Saturday of the month. So the next one will be on July 9th, 2011. DANCE LESSON at 8:00pm Shines for Women & Men and Partner Work by DANY JOSHUA & CAMILA SANCHEZ, and of couse the SALSA DANCE PARTY at 9:00pm. Music by DANY J & DJ Ricky V.

The cover will be $15 (includes admission to the salsa lesson and the party).

Learn Latin Percussion with Bob Ramos

We are happy to formally welcome Bob Ramos as an instructor at the Scarlet Mambo Latin Dance Studio. Bob will teach Latin Percussion classes starting in June.

Bob Ramos, Scarlet MamboBob Ramos is a professor at Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Latino and Hispanic Caribbean Studies Department at Rutgers University. His university course, “Music of the Caribbean” is offered every spring semester at Rutgers University.

Bob Ramos, a graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, has a Masters Degree in Music, with an emphasis in Ethnomusicology. His undergraduate studies included instruction in Jazz drums Keith Copeland and Ralph Peterson, Jr., and Percussion with Bobby Sanabria at the Drummers Collective in NYC.

His interest in music began at an early age, his parents exposing him to all types of music, including Latin, jazz, big band and rock. He has been playing drum set and percussion professionally for over twenty years, with a discography of over 15 recordings.

Previously, Bob has performed in and managed the Rutgers University Salsa Band. The group traveled to Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic to perform and study, and helped bring diversity to the Rutgers Music Department and positive outreach to the greater New Brunswick area.

He has also appeared on Telemundo and Univision with various Latin Rock bands.

Currently, He teaches drums and percussion in the Tri-state area. He performs with Latin/Jazz bands in New York City, popular classic rock groups in Connecticut, and with a Brazilian Bosa/jazz group in New Jersey. Bob has worked with classic rock, jam band, experimental, Funk, Latin and Jazz fusion bands in the past. He is overjoyed to join the staff at the Scarlet Mambo Latin Dance Studio, teaching group Salsa percussion ensemble for dance.

Salsa LEVEL 2: Cycle of 8 Weeks

Learn to play the Latin percussion instruments in a tipical Latin Salsa group! Students will be taught the fundamental musical rhythms of the different styles of Latin American music and dance focusing on Rumba, Mambo/Salsa, Cha Cha Cha, Bolero, Merengue and Bachata. This instructional course is tailored to the “Learn to Dance Cycle” scheduled on Tuesday evenings.

The goal is for students to become proficient enough to play for the Scarlet Mambo beginner dance class so that they can experience the excitement of playing various instruments in synchronization with live dancers.

There will be hands on instruction for conga, timbales, bongo, cowbell, maracas, güiro and clave. The eight classes will enable all participants to the learn the skills to play the basic and typical rhythmic patterns on each, and enable all participants to practice and understand how each instrument acts in unison with the others and supports the dance. Instruments will be provided, but students are welcome and encouraged to bring their own as well.

In 8 short classes students will have an understanding of the fundamentals of rhythm, drumming techniques and ensemble timing, which will enhance the student’s ability to listen to, dance, understand and enjoy the percussion section that has become so vital to Salsa music
and dance.

8 Week Cycle: Salsa Level 2 Starts Tues, June 7th

The Scarlet Mambo Latin Dance Studio is offering a brand NEW Salsa Level 2 dance course. For those students that completed the LEVEL 1 course, or for those students that already have strong knowledge of Salsa On2 fundamentals, this course is for you.

Now that you know the basics and the fundamentals of Salsa, this course will help you elevate your Salsa dancing so you can start having fun and showing off your moves on the dance floor. Learn flashy shines (solo steps) so you can impress all your friends, plus learn fun and smooth turns with a partner.

Men will learn how to lead smoothly, and women will learn how to follow most turns in the nightclub setting.
