Salsa in New Jersey at Rutgers-The State University of New Jersey

Sorta short notice, we know. Sorry. Dany Joshua will teach Salsa On2 dance courses at Rutgers University. Just a reminder, Rutgers courses are all in the “New York Style” AKA Salsa On2. The Friday courses are open to the general public. Any questions regarding registration, please call Registration office at 732.932.8203 during business hours. For other questions, contact Dany Joshua.

Rutgers Salsa dance courses will kick-off on Friday, January 29th 2009 at 7:30pm. Register through the RUTGERS REC WEBSITE. Select “Joshua, Dany” in the instructors drop down menu and click search for all Salsa Courses. Or see below the Spring 2010 for Salsa dance courses.

Dance Courses for Spring 2010 Semester
Starting Friday, January 29th at the College Ave Gym.
Course duration: 6 weeks. $20 for students and staff. $65 for the public.
Fridays – 7:30-8:40pm – Salsa – Intermediate I (1372.Q01P)
Fridays – 8:50-10:00pm – Salsa: Introduction (1370.Q03P)

Starting on Tuesday, February 2nd at the Werblin Rec Center (Busch Campus).

Quite a few people have been asking important questions and volunteering feedback about the recent changes in the Salsa parties. Thank you to everyone that gave me their opinion. With this in mind, let me clarify and explain the differences between the two parties.

Salsa Thursdays @ Perlé Nightclub will feature Salsa Classics, and a some amount of Bachata, Merengue and other party genres. This party will have a little bit of everything, a little hard salsa, a little commercial salsa, lots of classics, some Bachata, Merengue etc etc. We might even try some “Rock En Español” at the end of the night. Perlé Nightclub is a large and trendy venue so it lends itself to be more flexible and all-inclusive party. And the music must reflect that.

“Hard Salsa Saturdays” is a party for Salsa dancers. This party will feature lots of Salsa, and lots of Hard Salsa especially. There will be a few other things mixed through the night but the ‘bread and butter’ of this party will be music for hard Salsa dancers. The “old 360″ is a more intimate and warmer place, so it has more potential for that hard sound that Salsa dancers adore.

In the end, each event and venue has a personality of its own. The Salsa music played at each venue must resonate with the natural acoustics of the place and personality of the crowd. For decades, New Brunswick has been home to a very organic music scene! In the last few years, we have been building a public that is becoming addicted to Salsa music, and this public is very demanding in its tastes. For that reason, we have two different kind of events and venues… and music.

Sorry for the long hiatus. It has been a while since I have written or made posts in this website about Salsa in general. But please tune in every couple of days because I will post some interesting videos or articles. Let’s get back into the swing of things with this video.

Who knew that you could learn to dance Salsa On2 from a professional instructor at Rutgers University? Now you know. New-York-Style Salsa dance courses are being taught at Rutgers University. Learn how to dance the same Salsa timing as all the professional dance instructors and performers in New York City.
